Setting a Random Seed

To reseed the random number generator, open the properties dialog by clicking the button in the Advanced Actions section of the toolbar.

Select the “Random Number Generator” tab in the dialog. On that page, enter a new seed in the text box and press “Apply”. You can also enter “0”, which will use a seed based on the current system time.

This function is most useful if you want to create reproducible simulation results. By setting the seed to a particular value, you can ensure consistent results from a simulation run with the same parameters.

In RiskAMP version 6, we also add the option to lock a workbook seed. When the workbook seed is locked, all simulations — Monte Carlo simulations and Las Vegas simulations — will always start with the same seed.

To lock the workbook seed, click the button on the toolbar.
